Good afternoon,

I hope that you and your families are well. As we reach the end of this half-term and look forward to a week’s break, there is much to reflect on and celebrate from the last half-term, and to look forward to when we return in a week’s time.

YEAR 10 REPORTS & PARENTS’ EVENING

All Year 10 mock exam papers have now been marked by teachers, and students have now received feedback on their performance in most subjects. Mock grades will inform the grades that appear on Year 10 reports that will be issued to parents/carers of Year 10 students soon via Weduc. Parents/carers will be able to discuss these grades, and their child’s overall progress in each subject, at the Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 24th February. The Parents Evening booking system can be accessed via the remote login page on the school website.

LYCEUM TRIP

Colleagues from our English and Expressive Arts faculties are looking forward to a visit to Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre next week to watch a performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Students from Year 8 who have been studying this novel in English lessons will be joining Ms Hinch, Ms Henderson, Ms Lee and Ms Cawrey to enjoy the play on Wednesday of next week. And students from Year 11 who study GCSE Drama have also been invited along by Ms Bradshaw, Ms Blackburn and Ms Rimmington. Enjoy the production everyone!

YEAR 11 MOCK EXAM PROGRESS

Teachers are working exceptionally hard to mark and give feedback on the Year 11 mock exams that took place last week. I am pleased to report that our Year 11 students have made very good progress since their last exams in November. For example, our maths faculty are reporting a significant improvement in grades, our languages faculty have witnessed the best speaking exams in years, and our history department are reporting students excelling on their paper on Weimar and Nazi Germany. Well done, Year 11! Keep it up!

YEAR 9 FUTSAL VICTORY

Congratulations to our Year 9 boys football team who secured victory in yesterday’s Futsal tournament at the English Institute of Sport. The team progressed through five games to reach the final where they faced local rivals Birley Academy. After suffering early set-backs, Westfield trailed by two goals at half-time, but came back in a thrilling second half to win 3 -2. Well done everyone!

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE

We know that our Year 10 students have been busy searching for work experience placements. A reminder that the deadline for securing a placement is Friday 1st April. We understand it can be difficult to find a suitable placement, and we are working hard to find suitable placements too. Year 10 students should speak to Ms Radford in school if they need further support. And a final reminder for when students are enquiring about placements - employers need to have an up-to-date Employers Liability Insurance Certificate.

UNIFORM

Thank you for supporting school by ensuring your child attends school in full uniform each day. Please be reminded that hoodies, sweatshirts and jumpers other than the Westfield black v-neck jumper should not be worn in school, other than during PE lessons. Also, if your child has borrowed a tie from our Ready Room and this spare tie has made its way home, please could we ask that this is returned to the Ready Room next half-term. We are currently running low on spare ties.

Many thanks for your continued excellent support.
