Good afternoon,

I hope that you and your family are well. It was lovely to see parents/carers of Year 11 students in school yesterday for our Post-16 evening. We look forward to seeing more and more families visiting school for face-to-face parents’ evenings as the year progresses.

Year 7 Settling In Evening

We are excited to welcome parents/carers of Year 7 students into school next Thursday for our Settling In Evening. This will be an opportunity for parents/carers to meet their child’s form tutor and find out about how their child has settled into life at Westfield. For the first time we are also creating an opportunity for parents/carers to view the work their child has produced this half-term in a range of different subjects. Appointments for the evening can be booked via our website, here.

Year 9 Photography Outing

Well done to our Year 9 Photography students who took part in a visit to Sheffield City Centre as part of their photography course. Our photographers took pictures of some of Sheffield’s most famous landmarks that they’ll use in their project work back in school, and will no doubt create some stunning images!

Post-16 Evening

Thank you to our fantastic Year 11 students and their parents/carers for making this week’s Post-16 Information Evening such a success. We were pleased to welcome into school a wide range of post-16 providers, from schools with VI Forms to colleges and apprenticeship providers. It was inspiring to hear about the amazing ambitions our students have for the future.

Footballing Success

Well done to our various football teams who took part in fixtures this week. Our Y8/9 girls’ teams were successful in the tournament they entered, and our Year 9 boys were 2 – 1 winners in a national cup fixture against neighbours Wales High School. Congratulations, everyone!

Free School Meals Applications

A number of parents/carers have contacted us recently to enquire as to how they can apply for their child to be provided with Free School Meals. This process is managed by Sheffield Local Authority, with applications being accepted online, here. We’d very much encourage anyone who thinks their child may be eligible to apply as this not only ensures each child has a meal in school each day, in also secures additional funding for school to support children with their learning.

With many thanks for your ongoing excellent support,

Joe Birkbeck

Head of Westfield School
