History

Our Curriculum Intent:

Our humanities faculty share our school's commitment to implementing a curriculum that:

  • Is ambitious for every student
  • Develops students' social and cultural capital
  • Supports ambitious next steps

To ensure this happens through the history curriculum our aim is for:

  • Students to be fascinated and inspired to enjoy engaging with the past and empowered with skills for the future
  • Students to develop a life-long love of learning about key events, people and places in the past
  • Students to ask and answer important questions, evaluate evidence, identify and analyse different interpretations, and learn to substantiate any arguments and judgements they make.
  • Students to become tolerant, empathetic and open, and understand that 'their' history is multifaceted

More information about the content and sequencing of our history curriculum can be found via the link below to our Learning Journey and via the links to the left.

beyond the classroom

In recent years there has been a wide range of visits planned for history students. These have included visits to the cinema to see Harriet as part of the Year 8 curriculum, a Year 9 visit to the Holocaust Memorial Centre, a KS4 trip to the Thackray medical museum and joint trips with the other Humanities subjects are now being added such as the Humanities visit to London for Year 9. Even during the pandemic, we did manage to go beyond the classroom as we were able to arrange a Zoom call with a Holocaust survivor and the Holocaust Memorial Centre for students to take part in. We hope to add more visits and experiences beyond the classroom in the near future.
