Good afternoon,

I hope that you and your family are well. We’ve enjoyed a very positive start to October here at Westfield School and have much to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Breakfast Club

A reminder to all students that our dining room is open and serving breakfast each morning from 08.00 until 08.25. Students can purchase a range of items or can have toast for free every day. Our Breakfast Club is increasingly popular and is there to set our students up for an excellent day of learning. All students are welcome.

Year 7 Victory

Congratulations to our fantastic Year 7 boys football team who earned a convincing 6 – 0 victory in their first fixture of the season away at Outwood City Academy. Their manager, Mr Hurt, said every member of the squad played a part in the victory and he has every confidence they will have a great season. It has been fantastic to see how quickly our Year 7s have developed a pride in attending and representing Westfield!

European Day of Languages

Well done to all the students who got involved with our celebrations for the European Day of Languages. A number of students entered our languages-themed ‘bake-off’, many took part in a ‘treasure hunt’ and more still purchased cakes from our bake-sale, taking on the challenge of having to ask for the cakes in a European language other than English!

Congratulations to Kayah and Victoria for being placed first in the bake-off competition, and to Isabelle for being placed first in the treasure hunt.

Settling In Evening & Post-16 Evening

We look forward to welcoming our oldest and youngest students and their families into school for important evening events in the coming fortnight.

A reminder to Year 7 students and their families that our Settling In Evening takes place on Thursday 19th October. Families of children in Year 7 will receive a separate communication on how to make a booking for this event.

Before that, we will welcome Year 11 students and their families to our Post-16 Information Evening on Thursday 12th October. We are pleased that so many Year 11 students have already booked their places for the evening. Places remain available for any students/families who have yet to book.

The Westfield Way

In September we launched the Westfield Way with our students. The Westfield Way is a simple set of rules, principles and routines that can help us all to be successful at school. The Westfield Way can be summarised in three words – Ready, Respectful & Safe. Over the summer we shared videos summarising the Westfield Way and some of the routines associated with it via our website. These videos can still be viewed here:

As we approach the October half-term break, we plan to share a further video summarising our Clear Corridors strategy which encompasses when and how students can access toilets during the school day. We know from student voice that accessing toilets easily and safely is a key priority of our students, and one we aim to balance with the necessity of being in lessons and not missing crucial learning time.

Thank you, as ever, for your continuing excellent support.
